A Gainesville man was charged on Monday after a warrant was issued by the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office in connection to a June shooting, according to a police report.
On June 29, shortly after 1 a.m., two women were driving away from Gardenia Garden Apartments, located at 1727 NE Eighth Ave. Dionte Detraun Rutledge, 25, opened fire on their car, according to the report. Both women told police they saw Rutledge with a handgun.
One bullet reportedly hit the car behind the front tire of the driver’s side door, within inches of one of the women. Gainesville Police officers were called to the scene and noted the bullet hole in the vehicle, according to the report.
One of the women identified Rutledge in a photo lineup, and a warrant was issued.
Rutledge was charged with two counts of attempted murder, both first-degree felonies. He was additionally charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, a second-degree felony. Rutledge had previously been convicted of a felony in 2012 in connection to a convenience store burglary.
